Smart Instrumentation and Industrial Testing
A leap forward in artificial intelligence, automation and operational autonomy
Our research group is devoted to realizing machines that can mimic biological intelligence by exploiting novel non-conventional sensing (e.g. vision, acoustic) and establishing foundational artificial intelligence (AI) concepts.
With core competencies on new technologies involving pattern analysis methods, smart sensors, machine learning and visualization, the group aims at autonomic systems contributing to tipping points in the next decade that can contribute to security and well-being of our society.
One of the key research services of this group is enabling safe automation and autonomous operations capabilities for situation awareness, cost optimization and sustainable operation development of industrial and other processes.

Application scenarios of NORCE include:
- Innovative industrial automation
- Predictive and autonomous operations concepts for land-based industries (i.e. manufacturing, process, food, construction)
- Condition monitoring of critical and energy infrastructures (e.g. Oil and gas platforms, utility poles, wind turbines, solar farms…etc)

Summer school
MALVIC: Machine Learning and Vision for Industrial Applications is a summer school organized by NORCE that brings together pioneering international scientists in machine learning and computer vision for teaming and briefing on novel methods and concepts for real-life scenarios.
EVW: IEEE Embedded Vision Workshop
The research group is also involved in organizing the yearly workshop on embedded computer vision in conjunction with CVPR (Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition), ICCV (International Conference on Computer Vision) or ECCV (European Conference on Computer Vision)
