Safe use of biotechnologies

Gene technology, environment and society is conducting research and research-based activities with the aim to contribute to safe use of biotechnologies.

The research group focuses on research areas:

· Antimicrobial resistance in the environment by the one-health approach

· ELSA and RRI (ethical, legal, social and sustainable aspects) with new technologies

· Biosafety of GMOs and genome edited organisms

The research group is a national competence center and have a responsibility to provide scientific knowledge of to Norwegian environmental authorities concerning the use of GMOs according to the Gene Technology Act. This includes knowledge about effects GMOs may have on health and the environment, and for assessing the criteria for sustainability, societal benefit and ethics.
