My research aims to understand how brain processes sensory information and generate behavior, and how this process is modulated by exposure to environmental conditions (light, stress etc.), experience and learning. To address this, I use ethologically relevant species (salmon and spiny dogfish) and genetic model zebrafish, and employ a combination of molecular genetics, transgenesis, histology, microscopy, animal behavior studies, data visualization and analyses methods. In addition, by exploiting our understanding on brain function and animal physiology, my research also aims to develop method/tools towards sustainable environment (conservation, aquaculture).
