Competence and infrastructure
The research group has fifteen researchers working on plugging and abandonment of wells, recovery of well slots, testing of sand screens, well integrity for storage of CO2, hydrogen and ammonium, geothermal wells, offshore wind, energy systems, risk management, flow modelling and production optimization using fiber optics.

P&A - Well plugging and abandonment
Competence, infrastructure and activities were developed in SFI DrillWell during 2011-19 in a cooperation between NORCE, SINTEF, UiS and NTNU.
NORCE work jointly with the industry in the P&A Innovation Program, where we focus on full scale testing of technology and methods. Basic research is done i projects co-financed by the Research Council of Norway and the industry.
The Research Council is also financing the development of an infrastructure for P&A at NORCE, SINTEF, University of Stavanger and NTNU.
The same institutions and Institute of Energy technology (IFE) are jointly working in SFI SWIPA doing basic and applied research aiming for innovations within plugging and abandonment of oil and gas wells, wells for CO2 storage and wells for storage of nuclear waste.
Insdustrial P&A technology is being qualified at Ullrigg Test Center.
