– I am deeply committed to out-of-hours primary care, and I find it incredibly exciting to have the opportunity to help influence the quality of these services at the national level, says Siri-Linn.

She took up the position on 1 October, succeeding Jesper Blinkenberg, who is now Executive Vice President of Health and Welfare.

Exciting team

Siri-Linn has worked at the National Centre for Emergency Primary Health Care (NKLM), which is part of NORCE, for 11 years.

– Why did you want to become head of NKLM?

– I find it rewarding to help ensure that out-of-hours primary care services receive the support they need to become as good as they possibly can. I also find the NKLM team an exciting one to work with. We have skilled, wonderful colleagues who are all passionate about the same thing, says Siri-Linn, elaborating:

– Being able to explore a subject in depth while also sharing the expertise with those who can benefit from it. Following the research all the way to the users and seeing the impact it has. At the same time, I find leadership as a discipline both exciting and important.

A strong and highly competent centre

NKLM was established by the Ministry of Health in 2004 and has been part of NORCE since 2017.

– My most important tasks going forward will be to work with the NKLM team to ensure that we remain a strong and highly competent centre. Another important task is to continue developing NKLM as a robust centre. Among other things, I will work to ensure that we retain the funding for the expert group for sexual assault centres, says Siri-Linn.

The expert group for sexual assault centres is part of NKLM. In the government's proposed national budget for 2027, funding for the group has been removed. Broad efforts are now under way across NORCE to reverse this decision.

Soon PhD

Siri-Linn is a qualified nurse and has worked in out-of-hours primary care since 2007. At that time, she was given responsibility for establishing the service in the former municipality of Os.

– I was given empty premises and the opportunity to learn about out-of-hours primary care from the ground up. At the same time, I developed my expertise as a nurse in both the out-of-hours service and its call centre, as well as my leadership skills, she says.

All that remains is a minor revision of her doctoral thesis and the public defence, after which she will hold a PhD in call management at out-of-hours primary care call centres.

– It is great to work in a large organisation like NORCE, where we have the opportunity to collaborate across the different departments. Having such a large and robust organisation behind us makes being a leader at NORCE both more exciting and more reassuring, says Siri-Linn.

She has already spoken to NRK about her new role. You can hear the interview here.
