I am a senior researcher in the Drilling and Well Modelling research group in NORCE Energy. I hold a PhD from University of Bergen.

Before joining IRIS (now NORCE) in 2010, I worked as a research fellow in the Algorithms group at the Department of Informatics, University of Bergen, doing research in Theoretical Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics, most of it on Algorithmic Graph Theory which was also the topic of my PhD thesis. While at University of Bergen, I had two research stays abroad, at the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Oregon, USA and at Laboratoire d’Informatique Fondamentale d’Orleans, University of Orleans, France. I am also recipient of a research visit stipend from Department of Computer Science at University of Regina, Canada. During my time at University of Bergen, I also worked as a teaching assistant for courses on computer networks, graph theory and algorithms.

At NORCE, I have been working in projects related to drilling automation both as a researcher and in project management. One of these is DrillTronics™, which is an advanced drilling assistance tool and is now commercialized by Sekal AS. Other examples are project on automated fluid processing, different case studies for industry, projects related to human factors in automated drilling and projects related to testing and verification of new technology within drilling automation and digitalization.

Key research topics I have been focused on during last years are real-time simulation of drilling process, development and implementation of model-based drilling automation applications, mathematical modelling, efficient knowledge representation, self-calibrating models, decision support systems, online learning, uncertainty estimation and methods for prediction of risk level in decision making systems.

In parallel, I have also been an external evaluator on different committees for master thesis defense and evaluation, oral exams on algorithms and graph theory, evaluation of applicants for several PhD and postdoc positions at University of Bergen.

I am currently working on autonomous drilling within the Demo 2000 project: Demonstration of Automated Drilling Process Control, supported by AkerBP, Equinor, Norwegian Research Council, Repsol, TOTAL, Vår Energy. I am Technical Leader for Autonomous Drilling - research, development, testing and demonstration in this project.
