Understanding the climate system
In Earth Systems we work towards understanding the climate system around us. We study interactions between the atmosphere, ocean, land, and cryosphere (sea ice and ice on land).
We use numerical models (mostly NorESM, the Norwegian Earth System Model) to improve our understanding of the climate system. We develop, set-up, run and analyze outputs of NorESM and other climate models. We work on various time scales from the long paleo-time scales, to present-day, to future projections.
We collaborate tightly with our colleagues in the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (Bergen): University of Bergen (UiB), Nansen Centre (NERSC) and Institute for Marine Research (IMR). Other main collaborates are various institutes in Oslo, for example the Met Office and University of Oslo.
