PhD, spesialist i allmennmedisin

Knut-Arne Wensaas tok medisinsk embetseksamen i 1993 ved Universitetet i Bergen. Etter turnustjeneste ved Stokmarknes sykehus og i Hadsel kommune jobbet han som kommunelege i Stokmarknes inntil han returnerte til Bergen i 1997. Han er spesialist i allmennmedisin siden 2001 og jobber som fastlege ved Kalfaret legesenter i Bergen sentrum.

Han har PhD-grad fra 2011 med avhandlingen: «Giardiasis in Bergen. Outbreak and clinical consequences». Siden 2013 har han bistilling som forsker II ved Allmennmedisinsk forskningsenhet.

Knut-Arne Wensaas er leder for Norsk forening for allmennmedisins referansegruppe i gastroenterologi og for referansegruppen til Nasjonal kompetansetjeneste for funksjonelle mage-tarmsykdommer. Han er styremedlem og tidligere leder for European Society for Primary Care Gastroenterology

Hans forskningsinteresser inkluderer infeksjonssykdommer, fordøyelsessykdommer, medisinsk uforklarte tilstander og allmennmedisinsk epidemiologi.
