Mine forskningsinteresser omhandler design, utvikling, validering og anvendelse av molekylære verktøy for å adressere økologiske problemstillinger i akvatiske miljø. Min prosjektportefølje innbefatter både grunnforskning og anvendt forskning, med hovedfokus på det mikrobielle næringsnettet og hvordan dynamikken i det mikrobielle næringsnettet underbygger økosystem struktur og stabilitet. Mine nåværende forskningsprosjekter anvender hovedsakelig kvantitative (qPCR og droplet digital PCR) og kvanitative (high-throughput DNA sequencing) metoder til å (1) kvantifisere trofiske interaksjoner mellom marine virus og dyreplankton ved å undersøke vannsøylen og bunnsedimenter, (2) overvåke endringer i bunnfauna (inkl. protister) i havsedimenter som følge av utslipp ved oljeplatformer i Nordsjøen, (3) utvikle sediment eldgammelt DNA (sedimentary ancient DNA) som et nytt proxy for rekonstruering av fortidens havisutbredelse i Arktiske områder, (4) kvantifisere beitetrykk av marine predatorer på økonomisk viktige fiskebestander langs Norskekysten og i norske farvann og (5) utvikle og anvende miljø DNA (environmental DNA, eDNA) som et overvåkningsintegrert sporingsverktøy for nøkkelarter i akvatiske miljø. I tillegg til in vitro (laboratorieforsøk og analyser) og in silico (sekvensdatabehandling og statistikk) ferdigheter har jeg også erfaring med design av, deltagelse i og koordinering av in situ feltforsøk og forskningstokt. Jeg bruker både norsk og engelsk (skriftlig og muntlig) som arbeidsspråk.
