Peter is Chief Scientist within the measurement science group with 20 years experience in the development and application of photonic sensors, particularly fiber optic sensors. Research activities span across modelling, design, and production of sensor prototypes, as well developing practical and data processing methodologies for real-world applications. Peter has applied these skills and a wide range of applications covering transport, oil and gas, geothermal energy, CO2 storage, high temperature process monitoring, fuel cells, battery technology, environmental monitoring and hydrology.

Peter has extensive experience with a wide range of sensing technologies, including distributed fiber optic sensors for acoustic, strain, temperature and chemical sensing. Other areas of competence include Infrared spectroscopy, multispectral imaging and optical sensors for water quality monitoring.

Peter has an MSci in Chemical Physics from the University of Bristol (UK), and Engineering Doctorate in Photonics from the University of St. Andrews (UK). He has previously worked in the Fiber optic sensors group at QinetiQ (UK), and the optical technologies group at the National Physical Laboratory (UK).
