Marie Pontoppidan is the Research Director of the Regional Climate and Climate Services group and a senior researcher. She is affiliated to the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, the Norwegian Centre for Climate Services and the Norwegian Centre for Sustainable Climate Adaptation (Noradapt)
The Regional Climate and Climate Services group work with applied climate research on a time scale ranging from present climate to climate projections, and we are happy to work with our network of private and commercial actors.
Pontoppidan earned her PhD within regional modelling with focus on precipitation. Her current research interests ranges from basic research in complex topography, including mountain precipitation and extreme events into applied transdisciplinary work with focus on climate risk and climate adaptation. She has experience with citizen science and coproduction of climate information where she and colleagues, through two-way discussions with users, produce relevant and reliable climate information - in a format that reasonable and usable by our partners.
Recently, she has focused primarily on topics in the Norwegian landscape including the Centre for Mountain in Transition, but has previously worked on seasonal forecasting in East Africa and marine heat waves in the Caribbean. Her modeling experience ranges from running a pure atmosphere regional model to a coupled atmosphere and ocean model, as well as analysis and interpretation of data from these.
Please get in touch if you have questions or see opportunities for collaboration in the future.
