I have extensive experience in developing advanced mathematical models for physical conditions in wells during drilling, including flow of non-Newtonian fluids and heat transfer. The models have been used for planning, they have been adapted to and incorporated into an advanced training simulator, they have been included in software for real-time decision support, and in automated subsystems.

In recent years, I have worked with machine learning and the combination of physics-based models with data-driven methods to utilize large amounts of measured data in a reliable way.

In connection with providing support for automated pressure control during drilling, I have had many offshore stays, and through that learned a lot about how technology, people and organization interact during critical operations. As an extension of this, I have contributed to projects that study various safety aspects related to the increasing use of automation in drilling.

For model development I have used many programming languages, mostly Fortran-95, Matlab, Python and C#.
