Geir Nævdal finished his PhD (Dr. Ing.) degree in mathematics at NTNU in 1991. Since Oct. 1, 2018, he is a chief scientist at NORCE Energy. From 2004 to 2018 he held the same position at Rogaland Research (2004-2005) and International Research Institute of Stavanger. He started as a senior scientist at Rogaland Research in 1997. In the period 1991-1997, he was an associate professor in mathematics at Stord/Haguesund College. He was an assistant director of research at The National IOR Centre of Norway 2013-2015 and an adjunct professor at the Department of Mathematics, University of Bergen 2009-2012.
Nævdal has been conducting applied research for more than 20 years. He has mostly been working on problems involving porous media flow, flow in wells, and more recently seismic inversion and medicine. His main focus has been on solving problems involving data assimilation, large-scale parameter estimation and optimization.
