Edmond Hansen

Edmond Hansen is a senior researcher in the Coastal and Ocean Systems research group, with office in Tromsø. His fields of research are diverse, but mainly within arctic sea ice and climate, coastal oceanography and metocean data analysis. He has extensive experience in arctic field work and analysis of data sets from a range of oceanographic instruments. Presently he is leading (scientific coordinator) the EU Horizon funded project m4mining (2023-2025) where hyperspectral sensors (drone and satellite) are employed for mineral classification.

Edmond earned his MSc in marine hydrodynamics/applied oceanography in 1993 and his PhD in hydrodynamics/sea ice modeling in 1998, both degrees at NTNU in Trondheim. Following his years at NTNU he moved to the Norwegian Polar Institute in Tromsø, where he spent 15 years in the polar climate research program. He then moved on to Multiconsult, a Norwegian consultant engineering company, leading their Metocean and cold climate group and later the Marine technology department. After 10 years at Multiconsult he joined Norce in 2023.
