I'm a senior researcher in the Earth Observation research group in Tromsø. My fields of research are diverse, but mainly within arctic sea ice and climate, coastal oceanography, and hyperspectral imagery. I have extensive experience in arctic field work and data acquisition and analysis, as well as in numerical modelling. Presently I'm leading (scientific coordinator) the EU Horizon Europe funded project m4mining where hyperspectral sensors (drone and satellite) and processing techniques are developed and employed for mineral classification.
I earned my MSc in marine hydrodynamics/applied oceanography in 1993 and my PhD in hydrodynamics/sea ice modeling in 1998, both degrees at NTNU in Trondheim. Following my years at NTNU I moved to the Norwegian Polar Institute in Tromsø, where I spent 15 years in the Marine Ecology and Polar Climate research programs. I then moved on to Multiconsult, a Norwegian consultant engineering company, leading their Metocean and cold climate group and later the Marine technology department. After 10 years at Multiconsult I joined Norce in 2023.
