I am a senior researcher in the Earth observation research group in NORCE, with office in Tromsø. My fields of research are diverse, but mainly within arctic sea ice and climate, coastal oceanography and metocean data analysis. Within those fields I have worked with in-situ data as a seagoing oceanographer (extensive experience in arctic field work and analysis of data sets from a range of oceanographic instruments), numerical modelling and remote sensing. I am presently working in a team where we employ spatio-temporal statistics and machine learning for fusion of data from such diverse data sources.
Additionally I've been involved in management at various levels, such as department/group leader and discipline/work package/project leader in a variety of research, software development, and civil engineering projects. The most recent example is the EU Horizon funded project M4mining (2023-2026) where I was scientific coordinator (hyperspectral sensors (drone and satellite) and processing software were developed and employed for mineral classification).
I earned a MSc in marine hydrodynamics/applied oceanography in 1993 and a PhD in hydrodynamics/sea ice modeling in 1998. Both degrees were achieved at NTNU in Trondheim, but with important (to me) research visits at Universite Pierre et Marie Curie and Helsinki University of Technology. Following my years at NTNU I moved to the Norwegian Polar Institute in Tromsø, where I spent 15 years in the polar climate research program. I then moved on to Multiconsult, a Norwegian consultant engineering company, leading their Metocean and cold climate group and later the Marine technology department. At Multiconsult I got the opportunity to work with clients in a broad range of business sectors, mostly within aquaculture, oil and gas, and coastal infrastructure. After 10 years at Multiconsult I returned to science and joined Norce in 2023.
