Jeg ønsker å finne ut mer om det akvatiske miljøer og spesielt marine næringsnett. Fokuset mitt er på de minste organismene – dvs fytoplankton, bakterier og virus. Jeg er opptatt av å forstå hvordan samspillet mellom disse gruppene fungerer og hvordan det påvirkes av omgivelsene under pågående klimaendringer. Den praktiske delen av forskningen min forgår både i laboratoriet, felt og på tokt.

Arbeidet mitt har spesielt dratt nytte av eksperimentelle systemer kalt mesokosmer. Dette er (sjø)vannsinnhegninger som er store nok til å omfatte nedre delen av det marine næringsnettet, og som kan kontrolleres og manipuleres slik at man kan studere hvordan miljøforandringer påvirker disse økosystemene.

Min tekniske ekspertise er flow cytometri for deteksjon og analyse av encellede organismer og virus.
