KnowledgeScapes Overcoming obstacles of knowledge exchange: Tools and methods for inclusive land and sea-use decisions.

KnowledgeScapes Overcoming obstacles of knowledge exchange: Tools and methods for inclusive land and sea-use decisions.

The overarching aim of the KnowledgeScapes research project is to explore and improve participatory methods for the exchange of knowledge and knowledge-based land- and sea management.

The project examines what and who’s knowledge is heard and utilized in political decision-making as well as the causes why experience based knowledge appears to often be excluded from such processes.

Through the project the Nussir mining project in Hammerfest Municipality is utilized as a case. Decision-making processes associated with the mine is illuminated through two dimensions:

  • land - sea
  • elected officials - civil society

As part of KnowledgeScapes participartory methods of collection, sharing ddiscussion and analysis of traditional knowledge is explored. Methods that can play a part in building trust between groups.

Researchers from NORCE participate in work package 2 (WP2) which is led by Magnus Andersson.

WP2 examines the use of knowledge in local political decision-making and elected officials attitudes and expectations towards different types of knowledge and the science-policy interface.

In WP2 we collect empirical data using quantitative and qualitative methods and contribute to the overall project with empirical data and analysis to be utilized by the other work packages.
