Within the framework of the Women in Digital Forum, the Thematic Working Group on Women Shaping the AI Economy (TWG6) focuses on the role of women in Europe’s rapidly evolving AI economy, examining how artificial intelligence is transforming work, skills, governance and decision-making, and how these changes can be guided in a way that strengthens women’s participation, agency and leadership.

TWG6 looks beyond access to digital skills alone. Its work addresses how women can be meaningfully represented in the design, deployment, oversight and governance of AI systems, especially in workplace contexts where AI is already influencing recruitment, task allocation, performance assessment, career progression and organisational decision-making. The Working Group examines the gendered impacts of AI-driven labour-market transformation, including emerging risks around job quality, reskilling, career transitions and access to new AI-related roles.

Particular attention is given to the links between AI governance, the EU AI Act, workplace regulation, corporate accountability and transparency, and the need for measurable indicators to monitor whether AI adoption is improving or worsening women’s participation in the economy. TWG6 is informed by the evolving EU framework on Artificial Intelligence, including the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), while focusing specifically on women’s role in the AI economy, jobs, skills and transformation.
