I hold a PhD in Political Science from UiT The Arctic University of Norway. My doctoral dissertation, “Corporatisation and Ownership Governance in Norwegian Municipalities: Is Democratic Control of Municipal Companies Safeguarded through Ownership Governance?”, is an exploratory case study of ownership governance in three Norwegian municipalities. The overarching focus of the dissertation is how democratic control of municipal companies is exercised through formal and informal ownership governance, and how these formal and informal governance mechanisms interact.
My research primarily focuses on municipalities and local government, with an overarching interest in democracy, corporatisation, and governance arrangements in the public sector. I am particularly interested in the tension between efficiency, professionalisation, and political control, and in how institutional and organisational arrangements shape local political room for manoeuvre and democratic legitimacy. Regional development and the interaction between local, regional, and national levels of governance are also central themes in my work.
In addition, I work on issues related to Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and research ethics. This includes questions of participation, transparency, and societal responsibility in research and innovation processes, as well as ethical challenges in applied and interdisciplinary research.
