The CARM Centre aims to establish a strong competence environment in Agder, connecting NORCE, the University of Agder (UiA) and MIL, to advance knowledge, technologies, and innovation in AI-driven robotics and data spaces for waste valorization and recovery of critical raw materials (CRMs) from end-of-life products.

Europe’s exposed vulnerabilities in critical value chains highlight the urgent need for technological sovereignty and circular solutions. Norway, with highest generation of electronic waste and low recovery of valuable non-ferrous CRMs, faces a growing challenge that manual processes can no longer address.

CARM will foster development of flexible, scalable AI-powered robotic systems for automated waste sorting and recovery, while building skills, expertise, and innovation capacity in the Agder region. The project will strengthen industrial collaboration, education, and entrepreneurship, creating new market opportunities and contributing to Europe’s sustainable and resilient resource supply.
