I have a PhD in social anthropology and work as a senior researcher at NORCE Research, Department of Sustainable Development in the Arctic. Since 2018, I have worked with economic and social developments in the North, in recent years focusing on three main issues: One is Sami social life, culture and economic activities. This includes projects on Sami entrepreneurship, language and cultural rights, reindeer herding and Sea Sami fishing, as well as land conflicts and resource management in Sápmi. The second is cross-border relations in the Barents region, within business, health, the voluntary sector and culture, as well as the ongoing transition to a new reality in Northern border areas following Russias full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The last issue is the Armed Forces' buildup in Northern Norway, with a focus on societal ripple effects, preparedness, civil-military cooperation, and the Armed Forces' use of local suppliers in Northern Norway. In recent years, I have led several projects dealing with the military's presence in Northern Norway, and with a comparative focus on military presence and civil-military relations in Norway, Sweden and Finland.
