Andreas Nordang Uhre is a senior researcher and political scientist at NORCE in Stavanger. He studies political participation, interest groups and emerging parties, particularly in the context of contested climate, energy and environmental policies. His work examines how political movements organise, gain influence and change as they encounter established institutions.
In TRUST (2025–2028), funded by the Research Council of Norway, he leads the work on protest parties. He examines how new parties behave in local councils and interact with established parties, and what increasing party fragmentation may mean for the ability of elected assemblies to govern. He has also studied political entrepreneurship and public responses to environmental policy, including in the completed THERAPY project.
Uhre uses both quantitative and qualitative methods. He analyses proposals and voting in elected assemblies and has used structural topic modelling (STM) to examine political party manifestos. In recent research on energy data sharing, he uses survey experiments in Norway and Spain to study how information about potential benefits and governance safeguards affects willingness to share household energy data. His work also draws on interviews, comparative case studies, and document and content analysis.
Earlier research examined civil society participation in global environmental governance, interest groups in Norwegian policymaking, and the coexistence of the oil and fishing industries. He contributes to public debate on issues including data-centre development, economic value and regulation, and has presented his research in national media, including NRK’s Politisk kvarter. He has also written opinion pieces for Dagens Næringsliv and Aftenposten.
His articles have appeared in journals such as Interest Groups & Advocacy, International Political Science Review, and Marine Policy.
