This photo displays a fine selection of some of our female project leaders. Today, on February 11, we celebrate all women in research on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science!
The fact that NORCE has 10 EU projects led by women (50%) means that we have a gender balance in project coordination.
The EU projects span a variety of fields such as climate in polar and non-polar regions, aquaculture, infrastructure, biotechnology for food and feed, circular economy, CO2 storage and hydrogen.
According to the European Commission in the recently released evaluation of H2020, “Gender equality improved under H2020, with the share of women in evaluation panels reaching 42%, above the 40% target. However, the share of women in scientific advisory panels - and as researchers in projects - remained below the 50% target, at 43% and 23% respectively.”
“Despite efforts, it remains a challenge to achieve gender balance in the fields of research, entrepreneurship and innovation, and stronger measures are needed”, the evaluation states.
Hopefully, NORCE’s proportion of women-led European projects can encourage more women and early-stage female researchers to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
NORCE's female EU project leaders, among many others, contribute to making women in STEM visible and increasing women’s influence in science and technology.
–I am grateful to be working in an environment where women are not only leading European initiatives but also working together, helping and empowering each other. We hope this can inspire women and girls in Norway and worldwide towards the wonderful world of science and technology, says Lola Rodriguez, Head of International Affairs at NORCE.
