Preparing visual analytics software developed by NORCE for integration in European Plate Observing System (EPOS) E-infrastructure

The European Plate Observing System (EPOS, https://www.epos-eu.org/) is a large e-infrastructure for geoscience data. A central part of this infrastructure is the EPOS data portal (https://www.ics-c.epos-eu.org/) which offers discovery, contextualization and pre-visualization of data from many disciplines, e.g. seismic data, geodetic data, satellite data and geomagnetic data. In addition, the EPOS data portal provides access to a set of services called ICS-D (Integrated Core Services – Distributed). The purpose of ICS-D is to make available functionality and resources not covered by the data portal, for example for further data analysis and high-performance data processing.

The main goal of our work in this project was to provide pre-operational access to users for testing an ICS-D prototype consisting of Enligthen-web and Jupyter. The former is an advanced web-based tool for visual analysis of geospatial datasets developed by NORCE, while the latter offers an interactive programming environment. The two tools can be used in combination, sharing data and workflows in a fully integrated data room, in the cloud.

In this project, NORCE has helped to establish a workflow to retrieve and convert data from the EPOS data portal for visualization in Enlighten web. We have also improved the integration of Enlighten web into the EPOS infrastructure.
