I'm a chemical oceanographer by background and my research focus is on analysis of the carbon cycle in the ocean, especially on changes in recent decades, but also on the reasons for, and mechanisms behind, these changes. I want to increase the understanding we have of the carbon cycle in the ocean, both its natural variabilities and anthropogenic changes, including how such changes will continue into the future. I use many tools in my research, both observational and model-based. It is very important that we have good observational data to answer societally important questions about the planet's carbon cycle and I am therefore engaged in several international research infrastructures, first among them the Integrated Carbon Observing System (ICOS) where I am coordinating the Norwegian node: ICOS Norway and OTC, a project funded by the Research Council of Norway.
