May Olaug Horverak is senior researcher at NORCE Norwegian Research Centre and has a formal background as a child welfare worker and teacher, with a master’s degree in English and in Special needs education, and a PhD. in linguistics. She has worked as a case worker in the child welfare services, as a teacher in lower and upper secondary school and university, and as a headmaster in an adult learning centre.

After the PhD., she has lead several research and development projects related to the themes health promotion, mastery, participation and motivation in school. In addition, she has supported municipalities in raising competence through regional arrangements concerning special needs education and inclusive practices. She has several publications, including 5 books, and her field of research is health promotion, mastery, participation, motivation and language learning.
