NORCE-expert Antonie Oosterkamp points out questions regarding hydrogen as energy resource.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs & Climate Policy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the Netherlands is currently exploring a further strengthening of energy relations with Scandinavian partners, especially in Norway and their visit to Norway includes meeting the experts in our institute and partners in the NORCE-led FME-centre HyValue.

- HyValue is a Centre for Environment-friendly Energy Research. At HyValue we work to determine the role of hydrogen and hydrogen-based energy carriers in reaching a zero-emission energy economy, and further to support their implementation in society, Fionn Iversen leader of HyValue and NORCE-expert, explained for the visitors.

Fact Finding Mission

The experts from the Netherlands is here on a Fact-Finding mission. Their goal is to explore opportunities to intensify the bilateral relations between Norway and The Netherlands on hydrogen.

Iversen is happy after meeting:

- This meeting became an intense meeting with a lot of more questions to be asked and answered. So we all look forward to further ongoing dialog, Iversen says and continues;
-There are in fact far more questions than answers regarding the European energy market now. Not only regarding hydrogen but also in terms of how to do the right things in the right timing. The clock-is ticking and Europe needs to cooperate.

The Fact-Finding Mission in this meeting was:

  • To exchange information about the national strategy of Norway concerning production and export of hydrogen to the Northwest European market and the vision on the development of hydrogen in the Nordics.
  • To explore the opportunities to develop pipeline interconnections between Norway and continental Europe for the export of renewable and low carbon hydrogen.
  • To meet companies that will produce and export renewable and low carbon hydrogen to the Northwest European market.
  • To gather information about the progress of the so-called Green Corridors and decarbonisation of the shipping sector.
  • To explore the cooperation between innovative companies from both countries.

From the Netherlands: Senior Policy Coordinator Hydrogen Rodrigo Pinto Scholbach from Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, Senior Policy Officer Hydrogen Harry van Til from Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, Senior Policy Officer Hydrogen Nick Bijlsma from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Senior Policy Officer Jorunn Kristina Skodje from Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Oslo, Deputy Ambassador Sjoerd Smit and Robert Evers from Gasunie.
