The project aims to establish zero emission vessel designs for smaller vessels operating in the offshore wind farms. Important research areas are:

  • Optimum power management system and development of drive line simulation tools
  • Life cycle optimization of battery systems and fuel cells
  • Failure mode effect analysis methods and strategies for hybrid and all electric ships
  • Weight-optimum selection and architecture of power systems for small vessels
  • Optimal heave and comfort regulation for different sea states

The main R&D challenge is optimal design for the energy system on smaller CTVs with restricted space and weight, and still fitted for required work plans for the CTV

NORCE contributes with optimization tools, components models and combining models for electrochemical processes and power electronics.
