I am motivated by an interest in the natural environment and how we can better observe and understand it. I work with satellite remote sensing, especially radar/SAR data, where machine learning is a central tool for extracting information from complex environmental measurements.
I develop methods for mapping, monitoring and forecasting environmental processes and natural hazards, including snow avalanches, snow properties, ground motion, landslides, ocean winds and extreme weather events at sea. An increasing part of my work focuses on forecasting, using machine learning together with historical mapping data. A common goal is to turn complex satellite measurements into useful information about areas and processes that are difficult to observe directly.
