Carlos Bernad is a Chief Scientist in the DARWIN group at NORCE Norwegian Research Centre. He holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering and a postgraduate Diploma of Advanced Studies in Computational Mechanics and Automotive Technologies from the University of Zaragoza, Spain, and has been certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) by the Project Management Institute since 2013.

With more than 25 years of experience in research and innovation, Carlos has led and contributed to numerous European and industrial R&D projects across sectors including robotics, mechatronics, automotive, construction, and manufacturing. His recent work focuses on AI- and data-driven approaches to automation and collaborative robotics, as well as on public-private partnerships that support technology transfer and sustainable industrial innovation.

Before joining NORCE, Carlos developed his career at the Institute of Technology of Aragon (ITA), where he held several positions, including R&D Engineer, Project Manager, Department Head, and Program Manager. His technical work has spanned noise and vibration, multiphysics simulation, mechatronic product development, and robotic systems.

At NORCE, he is involved in projects exploring intelligent and adaptive robotic systems, with particular emphasis on their potential to enhance productivity, safety, and sustainability in European industry.
