Carlos Bernad is a Senior Scientist in the DARWIN group at NORCE Norwegian Research Centre. He holds an MEng in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Automotive New Technologies from the University of Zaragoza, Spain, and is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) by the Project Management Institute.

With more than 25 years of experience in research and innovation, Carlos has led and contributed to numerous European and industrial R&D projects across sectors such as robotics, mechatronics, automotive, construction, and manufacturing. His recent work focuses on AI- and data-driven approaches for automation and collaborative robotics, fostering public–private partnerships that accelerate technology transfer and sustainable industrial innovation.

Before joining NORCE, Carlos developed his career at the Institute of Technology of Aragon (ITA), where he held several positions including R&D Engineer, Project Manager, Department Head, and Program Manager. Over time, his technical expertise evolved from noise and vibration and multiphysics simulation to mechatronic product development and robotic systems.

At NORCE, he is involved in projects that explore intelligent and adaptive robotic systems, emphasizing their role in enhancing productivity, safety, and sustainability in European industry.
