We show our research, inspire, and be creative at the square, stage, and tour during the Research Days. Tongtong Yu has prepared cake and yogurt and will illustrate how the yogurt penetrates the small holes in the cake, just like oil does in a porous rock.

The Research Square in Bergen and Stavanger

NORCE researchers showcase their research creatively at the Research Square. We have two stations in Bergen on Friday, September 19th, and Saturday, September 20th. Friday is open for elementary school students, and Saturday is open for everyone. Visitors will hear about our research on geology, fluids, particles, and hidden paths underground.

We also have a booth at the Research Market in Stavanger on Saturday, September 20th. Here, visitors can learn more about the beneficial bacteria in the stomach, soil, and food. Bacteria can be used to create new products, purify the air, or protect us against allergies.

Researcher discussion on safety

Is it really safe to let external parties into your home to get a smarter house and lower electricity bills? This is one of the questions discussed at the opening of the Research Days in Stavanger on September 17th.

Ingvild Firman Fjellså will participate in the panel discussion. Her field is energy, mainly electricity consumption. She finds that electricity customers are unsure how smart technology and control systems will intervene in their daily lives. They want to manage their electricity consumption themselves and are worried about giving up control.

Biotechnology on the road and at the pub

Torill Blix is one of the researchers participating in the tour "The Researchers are Coming!" from September 18th to 23rd. The researchers travel around Troms and talk about various topics concerning safety. Blix will talk about biotechnology and how we can use it to change the properties of livestock and wild animals to improve breeding and save endangered species.

- When we do this, we must know that it is safe to use the technology, says Blix.

The tour ends with an evening at the Science Bar in Tromsø on September 23rd.

The tour and Science Bar are organized by the Fram Centre.

Young-arena for recruitment

Two of our researchers are participating in the Research Days Young in Bergen. They speak to high school students and their teachers. The main goal is to spark interest in research and higher education to recruit future researchers and professionals.

Martin Skagseth will talk about how stress can help you perform your best and promote personal development. The youths will also get some useful tips and techniques for effective stress management. Jarle Farnes will tell them about technology that can work on the moon, when equipment and people are sent to the moon to explore, build bases, and prepare for longer stays in space.
