Remote Sensing and Satellite Oceanography

Satellite Remote Sensing

Our research group are located in Tromsø and Oslo. Our competence is within satellite Earth observation in general, and specifically within satellite oceanography.

We have long experience in developing and applying satellite data for measuring ocean surface wind, waves and current. The group also holds expertise in satellite based ship detection and oil slick detection.

Satellite Oceanography

The research group has conducting R&D witin satellite remote sensing since mid 80´s, with focus on the European Space Agency missions, ERS, Envisat and Sentinel-1. The research group has been selected by ESA as an Expert Support Laboratory for the Envisat and Sentinel-1 missions.

The research group has been developing the ocean wave and surface current algorithm and products for the Sentinel-1 Ground Segment. The research group has also developed the met. Ocean processing system at Kongsberg Satellite Services.

Machine Learning and Satellite Remote Sensing

Recently our group has extended our research towards machin learning and its application within satellite oceanography, renewable energy and within maritime surveillance such as ship detection and oil slick detection from spaceborne radars.

Radar Signal Modelling and Processing

The research group has expertise in geophysical modelling (forward and inverse), digital signal processing and radar data processing and simulation.
