My research focuses on the dynamics of marine microbial communities and their global implications for biogeochemical cycles and marine ecosystem functioning. As a postdoctoral researcher within the European BIOcean5D project, I will be looking at biodiversity patterns from surface to depth to identify plankton communities that contribute the most to carbon sequestration in the deep ocean. More specifically, I will investigate the biogeography of prokaryotic and eukaryotic benthic microbial communities between deep-sea trenches in the North Pacific and Atlantic Ocean, using metabarcoding and shotgun metagenomic analyses of sediment samples.
