Basic knowledge of heat and heating mechanisms is important in the development of future energy systems and infrastructure. Thermal energy storage is believed to be an important component of the future energy system to reduce energy and power consumption. In geothermal energy, expertise in heat transport will be central to map the geothermal potential as well as optimizing geothermal systems and capacity for geothermal energy storage.
NORCE’s fibre optic expertise is used in monitoring geothermal plants with continuous fibre optic temperature measurements. These data provide unique information on conductive and convective heat transport and geothermal utilization mechanisms.
