Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)

NORCE has more than 30 years’ experience in using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) to analyze and solve problems that involve fluid flow, heat transport and associated problems.

One important area is analysis of problems involving the flow of gases and liquids. In addition to pure mass flow, the method allows simulation of coupled mass- and thermal flow as well as diffusion, dispersal and chemical reactions between species present.

Another important area is the use of CFD as a virtual flow laboratory for analyzing metering stations and flow instruments. Several studies have been carried out ranging from flare gas meters to complex export gas metering stations and separator tanks, e.g. with focus on flow profiles at the installation position of ultrasonic flow meters (USM), high viscosity flow, function/malfunction of flow conditioners. Both single- and multiphase fluids have been considered.
